The soap dish looked like a boat, so your elf declared themselves captain of the sink. Dry the dish, add a washcloth sail, and sit them like they are waiting for high tide that will never come because you turned the faucet off. Use a dry soap dish and a dry sink, keep bar soap from making the elf slick, and keep small soap pieces out of toddler mouths.

- • A soap dish
- • A washcloth or tissue sail
- • A dry bathroom sink
- • Optional: mini bathroom set if you want a doll-size sink and soap already waiting at the dock.
- • Optional: tiny bathroom accessories set if you want the dock stocked with ship supplies.
- • Optional: tiny toilet paper rolls if you want a little cargo stacked on deck.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Dry the harbor
Wipe the sink and soap dish so nothing is slippery. Move the real bar of soap to the tub ledge or a cup. A ceramic dish photographs like a boat; a plastic one still works.
Step 2: Rig a sail
Stand a folded washcloth or tissue in the dish, or tape a tissue to a cotton swab as a mast. Do not tape the doll. Keep toothpaste closed so the “sea” does not get minty foam overnight.
Step 3: Seat the sailor
Sit your elf in the dry dish with both hands on the sail, or stand them on the sink holding the dish like they are pushing off. Face the bathroom door. If the dish is tiny, sit them on the sink beside it as the dockmaster.
Step 4: Hang the tide chart
Write “Low tide until morning. Faucet off.” on a sticky note and stick it to the mirror. In the morning, let kids “sail” the dish to the other side of the sink, then put the real soap back. Rinse the dish before anyone uses it for actual soap.
