Broomstick Balancer: Kitchen Acrobat

The kitchen circus opened overnight. Your elf is balancing on a broom like a tightrope walker who borrowed the cleaning closet and forgot the net. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Lay the broom flat on the floor against a wall or cabinet so it is not a trip line across a walkway.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A broom and dustpan set
- • A kitchen floor along a wall or island
- • Optional: broom and dustpan set if you'd rather not borrow the good broom for the balancing act.
- • Optional: pack of yellow sticky notes if you want a scorecard for the judges at the end of the kitchen.
- • Optional: tiny broom and dustpan if you want a mini set leaning by the big broom like the understudy.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Park the broom on the floor
Lay the broom handle along the base of the cabinets, bristles against the wall. Kids see a tightrope; you see a broom that will not clothesline anyone at 6 a.m.
Step 2: Find the middle of the handle
Place the elf halfway along the stick, not on the bristly end. The “dangerous middle” is the circus part.
Step 3: Give them arms out
Pose both arms wide like they are concentrating very hard. Kids will copy the pose before they pick up a cereal bowl.
Step 4: Add a tiny audience
Stand a salt shaker or stuffed animal at one end as a judge. Instant scoring, instant arguments about a perfect 10.
Pro Tips:
- • A slightly dusty broom makes the “practice session” look more real; wipe it if you would rather not.
- • Tape is not needed if the elf’s legs straddle the handle.
- • Do not lean a broom across a doorway, even for a joke.
- • A dustpan nearby as a “landing pad” is a nice extra.
