Colander Helmet Hero: Kitchen Super Suit

Published on July 29, 2025
The kitchen needed a hero, and the hero raided the dish rack. Your elf is under a colander helmet, ready to defend the spaghetti from whoever left sauce on the stove. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a clean, dry colander and set it on the counter so it cannot slide off onto anyone’s toes.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A small colander or strainer
- • A wooden spoon “staff” (optional)
- • Optional: tiny copper colander if you want a helmet that actually fits a doll-size hero.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Flip the colander
Turn a small colander upside down on the counter like a helmet on a stand. Kids will say “knight” before they say “pasta.”
Step 2: Peek the hero out
Sit the elf so their face shows under the rim, or perch the colander just behind their head if it is too big. Either way they look overdressed for breakfast.
Step 3: Arm them with a spoon
Put a wooden spoon in their hands like a staff. The kitchen-utensil weapon is what makes parents snort-laugh.
Step 4: Strike a hero pose
Angle one arm up as if they just landed. Kids will reenact the pose with actual colanders, so maybe hide the good one after photos.
Pro Tips:
- • A metal colander “clinks” in photos; a plastic one is lighter on felt hats.
- • Spaghetti in the colander ruins the gag and the elf.
- • A dish towel cape tucked under the collar is a great extra.
- • Do this the night you really did make pasta so the joke feels earned.
