Dishwasher Disco: Rack Dancer

Author: Elfie Spot Finder. Time: about 2 minutes.

The dishwasher is already open because someone never started it. Tonight the holiday elf is using the rack as a dance floor. Power off, knives out, two minutes, then decide if the door stays cracked or shut. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.

Power the dishwasher off. Pull knives and anything sharp. No standing water. Do not leave the door down as a trip ramp overnight.

You Will Need This:

  • • Your holiday elf
  • • The dishwasher you already have
  • • A few clean plates or cups on the rack
  • • Optional: a clean measuring spoon as a "mic"

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Set the scene

Cancel the cycle if it is running. Pull knives and anything sharp. Slide one plate or a cup to make a flat seat on the upper rack if you can reach it from the floor.

Step 2: Pose the elf

Sit the posable elf on that plate or on the rack tines if they are stable. One arm up is enough for "disco." Do not wedge them in the silverware basket.

Step 3: Add the tiny details

A spoon as a mic is optional. Keep soap pods in the cupboard. If you cannot leave the door open safely, shoot the photo and close the door with the elf on the counter beside it instead.

Step 4: When kids find it

They find it when someone opens the dishwasher. Do not leave the door down in a dark kitchen overnight if people walk that path.

Pro Tips:

  • • Upper rack is easier to see. Lower rack is a trip hazard if the door is down.
  • • Dry dishes only. A wet elf is a sad morning.
  • • Skip glass at the front edge of the door.
  • • If the machine is mid-cycle, pick a different room. Do not open a hot wash.
