Fridge Leftover Raid: Cold Case

Someone is always raiding last night's dinner. The holiday elf got there first. Use the fridge you already have, not the freezer, and do not leave the door open. Two minutes, then shut it. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.

Do not prop the fridge door open overnight. No glass containers at the front edge. This is the fridge, not the freezer. Keep the elf off frozen shelves.

You Will Need This:

  • • Your holiday elf
  • • One leftover container that already lives on a fridge shelf
  • • A shelf that can hold the elf without tipping jars
  • • Optional: a sticky note that says "Saving this for me"

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Set the scene

Open the fridge. Clear a palm-sized gap on a middle shelf. Slide one leftover container forward so it reads as the target, not a mess.

Step 2: Pose the elf

Sit the posable elf on that shelf, not on a bottle and not in a drawer. Face the container. One hand on the lid is enough.

Step 3: Add the tiny details

Stick the note on the container, not on the door gasket. Check that nothing will fall when you close the door. This is not a freezer scene. Stay off the frozen shelves.

Step 4: When kids find it

They find it the first time the fridge opens in the morning. Take the elf out when you shut the door for the night if you do not trust the shelf. A two-minute open-door pose plus a photo is enough; do not leave them in there overnight if the shelf is slick.

Pro Tips:

  • • Middle shelf, not the door bins. Door bins dump when they swing.
  • • Skip raw meat and open juice. Use a closed leftover.
  • • If you take a photo, shoot fast and close the door so you are not cooling the kitchen.
  • • If the only gap is the freezer, pick a different room. Do not use ice.

Running Out of Ideas?
