Your elf discovered the makeup brushes and decided they were marching band instruments. Line a few clean brushes across the vanity like a parade route and put the elf out front as the tiny drum major. It is silly, fast, and uses stuff already sitting in a cup by the mirror. Use clean, dry makeup brushes only, keep powders and liquids closed, and keep the scene away from a toddler’s reach if the brushes are small enough to choke on.

- • Three to five clean makeup brushes
- • A vanity tray or bathroom counter
- • A cotton pad or compact as a podium
- • Optional: mini vanity set if you want a doll-size mirror and brushes already lined up for the parade.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Clear a vanity runway
Wipe a small stretch of the vanity or bathroom counter so brushes will not roll into the sink. Stand three to five clean, dry brushes in a line, bristles up, like parade members waiting for the downbeat. Close lipstick tubes and palettes so nothing gets on the elf’s felt.
Step 2: Make a tiny podium
Set a compact, cotton pad stack, or jewelry dish at the front of the line as a conductor’s box. Angle the mirror so kids can see the scene as soon as they walk in. Keep hair tools unplugged and off the same tray.
Step 3: Put the elf in the lead
Stand your elf on the compact with one hand on the tallest brush, as if they are directing the march. You can also sit them on a wide powder brush like a float. Face them toward the bathroom door so the first person in gets the joke.
Step 4: Leave a rehearsal note
Write “Brush parade. Please do not use until after photos.” on a sticky note and stick it to the mirror. In the morning, let kids count the “band members,” then put the real brushes back in the cup. Wash any brush the elf sat on before you use it on a face.
