Alarm Clock Snooze: Bedside Snooze

The alarm already lives on the nightstand. Tonight the holiday elf is on snooze duty. Two minutes, no phones, no games. Use the clock you already have. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.

Keep the elf off a wobbly nightstand edge. Do not pull batteries out of the clock. Do not cover a medical-alert button or a baby monitor.

You Will Need This:

  • • Your holiday elf
  • • The alarm clock on the nightstand (plug-in or battery; leave it closed)
  • • The nightstand
  • • Optional: a sticky note that says "Five more minutes"

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Set the scene

Clear a palm of nightstand next to the clock. Leave chargers coiled. The clock stays closed and working.

Step 2: Pose the elf

Sit the posable elf beside the clock, one hand on the snooze button or the top of the clock. They look tired. You know the feeling.

Step 3: Add the tiny details

A "Five more minutes" note on the lamp base is enough. Do not use a phone as the alarm stand-in. That is a different, already-used theme.

Step 4: When kids find it

They find it when they wake up. If this is a school-day clock, set a backup in the kitchen so the gag does not make anyone late.

Pro Tips:

  • • If the nightstand is a tippy stack of books, use the dresser instead.
  • • A loud analog clock photographs better than a tiny travel clock.
  • • Keep water glasses away from the elf and the outlet.
  • • You do not need a blanket nest. The clock is the joke.
