Carpool starts early when your elf steals the booster. They are buckled in spirit only, both hands on an imaginary wheel, ready to drive everyone to school in socks. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Do not thread real harness straps around the doll, and keep the seat on the floor or a bench so it cannot tip off a table.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A booster seat or high-back car seat (empty)
- • A set of keys or a toy steering wheel if you have one
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Park the booster
Set the empty booster on the mudroom bench or kitchen floor, facing the room like a parked car. Kids clock “someone is driving” before they see who.
Step 2: Seat the captain
Sit the elf in the middle of the cushion, legs dangling. Skip the real straps; a loose seatbelt joke is not worth wrapping webbing around felt.
Step 3: Hand over the keys
Dangle spare keys or a toy steering wheel in front of them. The “I am late for drop-off” energy is what makes parents laugh too.
Step 4: Add a tiny passenger
Tuck a stuffed animal in the cup-holder or beside them. Instant carpool, instant argument about who called shotgun.
Pro Tips:
- • Use a booster that is already out for morning, so you are not unbuckling a car seat in the driveway at 6 a.m.
- • A sticky note on the headrest that says “Recess first” is very funny.
- • Keep real car keys with you; use a spare ring or toy keys in the scene.
- • Wipe crumbs off the seat so the elf is not sitting in yesterday’s goldfish.
