Domino Watch: Almost Toppled

Published on September 22, 2026
The dominoes are one breath away from falling, and your elf has been holding that breath all night. Six tiles, a coffee table, and a very patient referee. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Keep the tiles on the table, not on the floor where they become a step hazard or a chew toy.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • Six dominoes
- • The coffee table
- • A clear spot away from the table edge
- • Optional: posable holiday elf if you want hands and feet that can hold the pose.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Clear the lane
Wipe a straight strip down the middle of the coffee table. Move cups so a bump will not start a real spill.
Step 2: Stand six tiles
Line up six dominoes with a tiny gap, the last one a little crooked so it looks like the chain lost its nerve. Do not knock them over.
Step 3: Post the watcher
Sit the elf at the start of the line, leaning in, one finger almost touching the first tile. The almost is the whole joke.
Step 4: Freeze the ending
A sticky note that says “Not yet” beside the last tile. In the morning, kids can topple them on purpose.
Pro Tips:
- • Six tiles photograph better than a fifty-tile chain.
- • A crooked last tile looks like suspense. A fallen line looks like you bumped the table.
- • Keep the line away from the table edge.
- • If you only have cards, stand six cards instead. Same gag.
