The spices are already in a row. Tonight the holiday elf is a picky critic with the lids on. You are not cooking, and you are not rebuilding a pantry store. Two minutes at the rack you already have. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Screw every lid on. Small jars roll and are a choking hazard. Keep the elf off a stove and away from a hot burner.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • Three or four spice jars from the rack you already use
- • A spoon, if you want a "tasting" prop
- • Optional: a sticky note that says "Too much paprika"
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Set the scene
Pull three jars to the front of the rack or set them on the counter under it. Lids on. Leave the rest of the row alone so it still looks like your kitchen.
Step 2: Pose the elf
Sit the posable elf on the spice rack lip or the counter in front of the jars. One hand on a lid, or a spoon raised like a taste test. Do not open the jars.
Step 3: Add the tiny details
A note on one jar is enough. If the rack is high, move two jars down to the counter and keep the elf there. No chair.
Step 4: When kids find it
This works before dinner, when someone is already in the kitchen. Put the jars back after the photo if they will get knocked.
Pro Tips:
- • Use jars you can spare for a night. Do not pull the one you need for dinner.
- • Avoid anything that stains if it spills (turmeric, paprika) at the front edge.
- • A cupboard-door rack photographs better than a deep pantry shelf.
- • If toddlers can reach the counter, skip loose lids and skip this spot.
