The wooden railway needed a conductor, and your elf showed up with a hat attitude and a sticky-note timetable. Park a train at a tiny station, sit the elf beside the track, and leave a “now boarding” sign. It is a two-minute rail stop that makes the playroom floor feel like a depot. Build the station on a play mat or table, keep small train pieces out of toddler mouths, and keep tracks off stairs.

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Lay a short platform
Snap or lay a short stretch of track on a play mat or table, not in a hallway. Use a wooden block or a hardcover book as the station platform. Keep extra track in the bin so you are not building a city at midnight.
Step 2: Park the holiday train
Park an engine and one car at the platform. A red or green engine photographs more “holiday” than a yellow one, but any color works. Leave the rest of the trains in the box.
Step 3: Put the conductor on duty
Sit your elf on the block platform with one arm raised like they are signaling, or stand them beside the engine. You can also sit them in an open freight car if they fit. Face the playroom entrance.
Step 4: Post the timetable
Write “Now boarding: cookies.” on a sticky note and stick it to the platform. In the morning, let kids roll the train one loop, then pack the track if it is in a walkway. Keep small magnetic connectors off the floor.
