Breakfast became a kingdom and the drawbridge is the cereal box flap. Your elf is on the parapet, guarding the marshmallows like a national treasure. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Keep the boxes on the counter, not stacked so high they can fall on a toddler, and close bags inside so cereal does not spill.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • Two or three cereal boxes
- • A kitchen counter
- • Optional: mini shopping cart if you want a supply cart parked at the fortress gate.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Build the walls
Stand two cereal boxes side by side and lean a third across the top like a roof. Kids will recognize a castle faster than they recognize breakfast.
Step 2: Open one flap as a gate
Fold one box top into a drawbridge. That single flap is the detail that turns “boxes on a counter” into a story.
Step 3: Station the guard
Sit the elf on the roof box, legs hanging, looking down at the “gate.” They should look like they skipped the overnight shift at the North Pole for this.
Step 4: Spill one decoy loop
Place two or three cereal pieces on the counter like fallen stones, then sweep them before anyone steps on them. The wreckage sells the siege.
Pro Tips:
- • Colorful kids’ cereal photographs better than a beige bran box.
- • If you only have one box, lay it on its side as a bunker instead.
- • A spoon stuck in the “moat” (a cereal bowl) is a great extra.
- • Put the milk away so nobody knocks the fortress during the morning rush.
