Pot Lid Shield: Kitchen Knight

A dragon (probably the toaster) threatened the kitchen, so your elf grabbed a pot lid and declared knighthood. Lean a lid like a shield, hand them a wooden spoon sword, and stand them on a cutting-board castle. It is two minutes of chaos with dishes you were going to wash anyway. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a cool, dry lid on a stable counter, keep knives in the block, and do not let kids swing the spoon near anyone’s face.

- • A small pot lid
- • A wooden spoon
- • A cutting board as the castle floor
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Build the castle floor
Set a cutting board on a dry counter away from the stove. Lean a small pot lid against a mug or the backsplash so it stands like a shield. A glass lid photographs shinier; a metal lid looks more like armor.
Step 2: Arm the knight
Lay a wooden spoon beside the lid as a sword, or tape a paper flag to the spoon handle and stand it in a mug. Keep real knives in the block. A measuring cup can be a helmet sitting nearby, not on the elf’s head if it will fall.
Step 3: Strike a pose
Stand your elf in front of the lid with one hand on the handle and the other on the spoon. If they will not stand, sit them with the lid in their lap like they are catching their breath. Face the kitchen entrance like they are guarding breakfast.
Step 4: Post the quest board
Write “Dragon (toaster) still at large.” on a sticky note and stick it to the backsplash. In the morning, let kids “knight” someone with the spoon, then put the lid back on its pot. Do not leave a glass lid where it can get bumped onto the floor.
Pro Tips:
- • A small saucepan lid is easier for the elf to “hold” than a giant stockpot lid.
- • A wooden cutting board looks more like a castle than a glass one.
- • If you have a colander, invert it nearby as a helmet stand.
- • Skip this right before cooking if you actually need that lid.
