Hanger Zipline: Closet Ride

Published on October 8, 2026
The closet rod became a zipline. Your elf grabbed a hanger with both hands and is stuck mid-ride, which is exactly how they wanted to be found. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a sturdy rod and a hanger that will not fall. Keep the ride inside the closet, not across a doorway.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A wooden or plastic hanger
- • The closet rod
- • A scarf for the landing
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Clear a lane
Slide a few hangers to one side of the closet rod so there is a short empty stretch. You do not need the whole closet.
Step 2: Hook the ride
Hang one empty hanger on that open stretch. Lay a scarf on the closet floor under it so there is a soft landing in the story.
Step 3: Clip in the rider
Hook the elf’s hands over the hanger bar, or sit them in the hanger triangle with both hands on the hook. Feet dangle. Mouth open like the ride is fast. The elf is the passenger, not a decoration beside the hanger.
Step 4: Name the ride
A sticky note on the closet door that says “Again!” Put the everyday clothes back after the reveal so the closet still works.
Pro Tips:
- • Feet off the ground sell the zipline. Feet on a shelf look like they are just sitting.
- • A colorful scarf is the landing pad kids notice first.
- • If the elf slips, a hair tie around one wrist and the hanger bar holds the pose.
- • Do not hang this where a door will slam into it.
