Laundry Basket Ball Pit: Sock Ball Splash

The clean laundry became a ball pit, and your elf cannonballed in. They are up to their hat in rolled socks, looking like recess opened in the laundry room. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a basket on the floor so it cannot fall from a dryer, and skip this if your dog thinks socks are snacks.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A laundry basket
- • A dozen rolled socks
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Fill the pit
Roll a dozen clean socks and tumble them into the basket. Colorful kid socks look more like balls than beige adult pairs.
Step 2: Make a splash hole
Press a dent in the middle. That crater is where the cannonball landed.
Step 3: Drop the elf in
Sit them in the dent with socks to the chest and both arms up. Kids will ask if they can jump in next, which is your cue to say “after photos.”
Step 4: Leave one sock on the rim
Drape a single unmatched sock on the basket edge like it tried to escape. The unmatched sock is a universal parent joke.
Pro Tips:
- • Clean laundry only; a dirty-sock pit is a different kind of surprise.
- • A sticky note that says “Closed for swimming” is very funny.
- • Do this the night you already have a basket of socks to fold.
- • Unroll and pair them after breakfast so the gag does not become a week of chaos.
