The washer window looked like a tiny TV, so your elf sat down to watch the spin cycle that is not even running. Sit them on the closed lid or in front of the door with a sticky-note program guide. It is a two-minute laundry-room scout that makes a boring appliance feel like Saturday morning cartoons. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. Keep the washer off and closed, never put the elf inside the drum, and do not let kids climb into the machine.

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Confirm the washer is off
Make sure the cycle is finished, the door is closed, and nobody is about to start a load. Front-loaders: sit the elf in front of the glass, not in the drum. Top-loaders: sit them on the closed lid only.
Step 2: Add a viewing cushion
Fold a clean sock or unused dryer sheet as a seat on the lid or on a hamper in front of the window. Keep detergent pods in their container. A laundry basket can be theater seating for stuffed animals.
Step 3: Seat the scout
Sit your elf on the cushion facing the window, with both hands on the glass like they are watching a movie. For a top-loader, have them look at a sticky-note “screen” on the lid. Face the laundry-room door.
Step 4: Leave the program guide
Write “Now playing: Spin Cycle (rerun).” on a sticky note and stick it to the machine. In the morning, let kids peek at the empty drum through the closed door, then start laundry only after the elf is moved. Never let kids climb in to “see the movie.”
Pro Tips:
- • A front-loader window is the whole joke; use it if you have one.
- • A dark load left visible behind the glass is extra funny, as long as it is done and not wet on the elf.
- • Do this on laundry day so the machine is already the center of attention.
- • A popcorn bowl of cotton balls on the hamper is optional and very silly.
