Mail Slot Messenger: Tiny Delivery Stop

The North Pole mail truck apparently made a stop at your front door, and your elf is taking the last letter very seriously. Tuck a couple of envelopes by the mail slot or entry table and pose the elf like they just rang the bell. It is a two-minute setup that feels like a whole postal subplot. Keep the elf on the inside of a locked door, never in the outdoor mail slot, and do not let kids open the door unsupervised to “help the mail.”
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • Two or three envelopes or junk-mail flyers
- • A sticky note “letter”
- • The inside of your front door or mail basket
- • Optional: colored binder clips if you want the letters bundled up for delivery.
- • Optional: tiny clipboard if you want the carrier checking off stops.
- • Optional: tiny red stationery set if you want a spot to sign for the package.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Pick an indoor drop
Use the inside of the front door, a wall-mounted mail slot, or the basket where real mail lands. Stack two envelopes on the floor or bench so it looks like a delivery just happened. If you do not have a slot, the entry table by the keys works just as well.
Step 2: Make a tiny letter
Fold a sticky note into a mini envelope and write a kid’s name on the front. Slip it halfway into the slot, or lean it against the mail basket. Keep real bills in a separate pile so nobody tosses the elf’s note with recycling.
Step 3: Pose the messenger
Sit your elf on the mail pile with one envelope in both hands, or stand them reaching toward the slot. Bend a knee like they just hopped down from a tiny truck. If the slot is too high, put them on a shoe bench looking up at the letters.
Step 4: Add the delivery notice
Write “Special delivery. Do not sit on the mail.” on a second sticky note and stick it to the door at kid height. In the morning, let kids “open” the tiny letter before you put real mail away. Close the door fully so the scene stays inside.
Pro Tips:
- • A colorful junk-mail flyer photographs better than a plain white bill.
- • If you have a mail basket, sit the elf on the rim instead of stuffing them in the slot.
- • Address the tiny letter to the kid who usually finds the elf first.
- • Skip this on a windy day if your slot blows cold air onto the doll.
