Pillowcase Post Office: Bed Mail Delivery

Published on August 31, 2026
The North Pole apparently rerouted overnight mail through a pillowcase, and your elf is the night clerk. Stuff a spare pillowcase with a couple of sticky-note letters and sit the elf on the bed like they are waiting for pickup. It is a two-minute bedroom surprise that does not require a trip to the kitchen. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a spare pillow and keep the scene off the floor, and do not cover a sleeping child’s face with extra pillows to “improve the scene.”
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A spare pillow and pillowcase
- • Sticky notes as letters
- • A hairbrush or ruler as a “counter”
- • Optional: deck of tiny playing cards if you want elf-size postcards for the sorting pile.
- • Optional: set of tiny letters if you want a little mail stack on the pillow.
- • Optional: pack of yellow sticky notes if you want bigger letters to go with the tiny ones.
- • Optional: tiny gift chest if you want a parcel waiting at the counter.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Open the night branch
Lay a spare pillow on top of the made bed, not over anyone who is sleeping. Pull the pillowcase opening wide so it looks like a mail bag. Use a guest pillow if you do not want to unmake a kid’s bed at midnight.
Step 2: Sort the letters
Write two or three sticky-note letters with kids’ names and tuck them halfway into the pillowcase. Fold one into a tiny envelope. A hairbrush laid across the pillow can be the counter if you need a prop.
Step 3: Seat the night clerk
Sit your elf on the pillow with a letter in both hands, or tuck their legs into the pillowcase opening like they crawled in to sort. Face them toward the bedroom door. Keep extra pillows from blocking the path to the bed.
Step 4: Hang the pickup window
Write “Post office open at sunrise.” on a sticky note and stick it to the headboard. In the morning, let kids “collect” their letters before they make the bed. Put the spare pillow back in the closet so nobody sleeps on the prop pile.
Pro Tips:
- • A patterned holiday pillowcase looks more like a mail sack than a plain white one.
- • Address one letter to the family pet for an extra laugh.
- • Do this on a weekend morning so nobody is rushing past the scene.
- • If bunk beds are tight, use the lower bunk’s extra pillow only.
