The cat tree got a new tenant, and the cat is going to have opinions. Your elf is on a mid-level perch like they trained all season for this summit. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Place the elf after the cat is asleep or in a closed room, and keep them on a platform the cat cannot easily shred if yours hunts toys.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A cat tree or tall cat perch
- • A cat who is already in another room (ideal)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Wait for cat bedtime
Do this after the cat is fed, sleepy, or shut in another room. A shredded elf is a sad souvenir, not a funny one.
Step 2: Choose a mid platform
Skip the very top if your cat launches from there. A middle cubby photographs as a climb and is easier to rescue at 6 a.m.
Step 3: Hook the climber on
Sit the elf with legs dangling off the platform, one hand on the sisal like they just hauled themselves up. Mid-effort is funnier than a victory pose.
Step 4: Leave a “trail mix” joke
Set a couple of cat treats on a lower step like supplies, then pick them up before the real cat finds a second breakfast. The story is enough.
Pro Tips:
- • If your cat destroys anything new, perch the elf on a nearby bookshelf “watching” the tree instead.
- • A tiny paper flag on a toothpick is cute; remove it before the cat returns.
- • Take the photo immediately; this is a short-shift scene.
- • Wash felt if it picks up cat hair, or kids will think the elf grew a coat.
