The coffee table grew a merry-go-round overnight. Your elf is on top of the coasters with one arm waving, and the only ticket is a note that says to go again. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.

Stack the coasters in the middle of the table so they cannot become a step stool to the couch.

You Will Need This:

  • • Your holiday elf
  • • Four or five coasters
  • • The coffee table
  • • A ribbon scrap for a ticket
  • • Optional: posable holiday elf if you want hands and feet that can hold the pose.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Clear the midway

Slide remotes and cups to the far side of the coffee table. You only need a coaster-sized stage in the middle.

Step 2: Build the ride

Stack three round coasters for the seat. Lay three more in a ring around the stack so it looks like the floor of the ride. Lean a spoon against the stack. That spoon is the pole in the middle.

Step 3: Seat the rider

Sit the elf on the top coaster, legs dangling, one arm up in a wave. If the stack wobbles, drop to two coasters. The wave is what makes it a carousel.

Step 4: Leave a ticket

Tuck a sticky note under the stack that says “Again! Again!” Kids will want a turn. The coasters survive that.

Pro Tips:

  • • Round coasters look like a ride. Square ones look like a pile of coasters.
  • • The waving arm is the whole joke. A still elf just looks stacked.
  • • Keep drinks off the table until after the reveal.
  • • The scene breaks down into a normal coaster pile in one second.
