The junk drawer finally got a mechanic. Your elf is in the half-open drawer with a roll of tape and a dead battery, looking like every gadget in the house is about to be “fixed.” It is a two-minute gag as long as you remove the sharp stuff first. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Remove real blades, knives, and box cutters from the drawer before you pose the elf.
You Will Need This:
- • Your holiday elf
- • A junk drawer cracked open a few inches
- • A roll of tape
- • A dead battery
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Pull the sharp stuff
Open the junk drawer and take out blades, box cutters, and anything pokey. Set them in a high cabinet for the night. The gag cannot include real knives.
Step 2: Crack the drawer
Leave the drawer open a few inches, not yanked out. Park a roll of tape and a clearly dead battery as the “job.” Keep coins and tiny screws from becoming floor hazards.
Step 3: Seat the mechanic
Sit your elf on the drawer edge or just inside, tape in hand. A focused frown sells the repair shop. Make sure the drawer cannot slam on the doll.
Step 4: Tape a warning on the front
A sticky note that says “Shop open” is plenty. In the morning, close the drawer after the photo and put blades back only if that is where they belong. Wipe the counter of escaped paper clips.

- • No real blades in the scene, even “just in the back.”
- • A dead battery is a funny prop; a loose pile of batteries is a toddler hazard.
