Mixing Spoon Surfboard: Countertop Wave

The kitchen counter turned into a winter wave, and your elf found a wooden spoon that looks suspiciously like a surfboard. Lay the spoon on a rumpled dish towel and pose the elf in a wide stance like they caught the last swell before breakfast. It is one of those setups you can do while the coffee brews. Use a clean, dry mixing spoon on a stable counter, keep knives in the block, and do not set the scene on a wet or freshly wiped slick surface.

- • A wooden mixing spoon
- • A dish towel or paper towels
- • A mixing bowl as the “shore”
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Make a towel wave
Lay a dish towel on a dry stretch of counter and rumple it into a long swell. Set a mixing bowl on its side at one end as the “shore break.” Keep the stove off and the spoon away from any burner.
Step 2: Launch the spoon board
Place a clean wooden spoon on the towel, bowl facing up so it looks like a board with a slight curve. Angle it toward the bowl as if the elf is riding into shore. A metal spoon works if that is what you have; wooden just photographs warmer.
Step 3: Stand the surfer
Stand your elf on the spoon handle with knees bent and arms out for balance. If they will not stay, sit them on the spoon with legs straddling the handle like a longboard. Face them toward the bowl so the story is one glance.
Step 4: Hang the beach flag
Write “Wipeout warning. Coffee first.” on a sticky note and stick it to the backsplash. In the morning, let kids “surf” the spoon once across the towel, then put the spoon in the utensil crock. Shake the towel into the laundry, not the floor.
