Night-Light Hall Monitor: Hallway Patrol
Author: Elfie Spot Finder Time: about 2 minutes.
The night light already runs this hall. Tonight the holiday elf is the hall monitor. Two minutes. Cool plug-in only. This is a patrol, not a light-show. If you already have a posable holiday elf, skip to the recipe. If you don't, start with the setup kit.
Use a cool plug-in night light, not a hot incandescent bulb or a space heater. Do not block the hall. Sit the elf on the floor or a low shelf beside the light, not on the outlet.
You Will Need This:
- Your holiday elf
- The plug-in night light that already lives in the hall
- A low shelf, a shoe-free patch of floor, or the baseboard ledge beside it
- Optional: a sticky note that says "Hall is quiet"
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Set the hall
Leave the night light where it already plugs in. Clear a sit spot beside it, not in the walking path. Do not add extra lamps.
Step 2: Pose the elf
Sit the posable elf on the floor or the low shelf next to the light, facing down the hall. They are on patrol. They are not sitting on the outlet or the bulb.
Step 3: Add the tiny details
A "Hall is quiet" note on the wall is enough. Do not add string lights. Do not add a flashlight maze. Do not block a bedroom door.
Step 4: When kids find it
They find it on the first trip to the bathroom, or when they walk the hall in the morning. Move the elf before the school rush if that floor patch is the path.
Pro Tips:
- A cool LED plug-in is the whole set. A hot old bulb is a skip.
- Floor or a low shelf. Not the top of a wobbly speaker.
- If the hall is dark for the photo, use the night light plus the nearest overhead, then dim it. Do not use a flash that wipes the scene.
- This is not a string-light night and not a stair hang.
