Do not hang the elf from the hook. Sit them on the tray or the shelf so keys still work and nobody trips on a dropped ring.
You Will Need This:
- Your holiday elf
- The key hook, bowl, or tray by the door
- One spare key ring you can leave overnight (not the only car key)
- Optional: a sticky note that says "Borrowing these"
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Set the scene
Clear a palm of space on the tray under the hooks. Set one spare ring on the tray. Leave the daily keys on their hook so morning still works.
Step 2: Pose the elf
Sit the posable elf on the tray or the shelf, not on a hook. One hand on the spare ring. They look like they are about to leave, not like they are hanging.
Step 3: Add the tiny details
A short note on the tray is enough. Do not loop a lanyard around the elf's neck. Do not block the deadbolt or the door swing.
Step 4: When kids find it
This is a school-run find, when someone grabs keys. Put the spare ring back after breakfast so it does not walk off in a backpack.
